Looking to stir up your reception’s cocktail hour? Enter Andrew “the Alchemist” Willett’s Elemental Mixology services (elementalmixology.com). An experienced bartender who recently consulted with L.A.’s Jaraguá, and a culinary school graduate, Andrew now teaches the secrets of mixed drinks. First lesson? The word “cocktail” is not a synonym for mixed drink. “Cocktails are traditionally a very specific type of mixed drink, originally known as ‘bittered slings,’” explains the Los Angeles–based mixologist. And that’s just the beginning. “I focus on understanding the elemental natures of traditional types of drinks…and the situations each type is best enjoyed.”

Andrew’s courses range from a two-session intro class to a full-blown six-session course, all held in his private lab in Koreatown. Andrew recommends the intro course to those looking to whip up a signature drink or kicking off the bachelor party, and he’ll even help create a signature drink. As an added plus, mention this article for a reduced rate. Cheers! Lara Burnap
