Best of 2015: Best Photographer

Brian Leahy Photography

Known for: A love for color, sharp images and beautiful, fleeting moments combined with an outgoing and relaxed personality, which puts couples at ease and often creates lasting friendships.

Wedded wisdom: “The need to be flexible is incredibly important,” notes Leahy. “At any point something can run late--hair and makeup, traffic, family--so having the experience to navigate around challenges and keep the couple calm and happy is a big part of a photographer’s job.”

Studio EMP

Known for: Capturing real-life moments filled with emotion, romance and beautiful lighting. Owner Joel Maus’ easygoing style, warm personality and observant eye turn photo taking into a natural experience.

Wedded wisdom: Follow your photographer’s lead and relax. “During the shoot, we carry on a conversation about anything while I give them little instructions, like ‘Stand like you’re waiting for a bus,’ ‘Just grab her and snuggle,’” explains Maus. “Once the couple begins to relax, I let them know that this is what I’m looking for.”

Cameron Ingalls

Known for: Being inspired by the couple, their life and their story. Ingalls finds the beauty and love in every moment, and brings together light, composition and a couple’s chemistry.

Wedded wisdom: “The kind of photographer you want is someone who will capture your very essence,” says Ingalls. “Looking at their body of work should make you feel at home. You want to remember how you felt—not just how you looked.”
