A Modern Palm Springs-Inspired Reception Setting
Wednesday, March 19 2014
One look at Designer Specialty Linen’s hexagon patterned Geo linen and Sara Holland and Jenny Goodman of At Your Door Events were transported to quintessential Palm Springs venue, The Parker Palm Springs. Imagining a relaxed, cool and stylish couple, Holland and Goodman set to work creating a mid-century modern meets atomic age meets Palm Springs chic.
They started out by setting the design on a hexagon-shaped table and repeated the pattern in their paper goods, including the menu. For a unique twist on the table number, Holland and Goodman designed custom gold vinyl decals with the table number printed a mid-century modern typography and placed on the tulip-shaped chair back. Tiny square gold lamé covered pillows were placed in each chair while the cool factor was added with white wayfarer-style sunglasses serving as escort cards. A unique charger was created out of Carrara marble tile mosaics from a local hardware store—that added a unique touch of texture and kept the hexagon pattern in check. Lapis and cobalt fiestaware dinner plates with a colorful floral salad plate added a bold, but romantic texture to the table.
Rounding out the table were a mix of organically-shaped florals including one large golden orb shaped vessel surrounded by six smaller white vessels filled with vibrant orange poppies,, pincushions, thistle, ranunculus and fragrant hyacinth. Nestled among the floral centerpieces were two lawn flamingos that were simply painted gold to tie into the color scheme. “The flamingos were our cheeky and playful centerpiece,” explains Holland. “But they also added a sense of romance. Flamingos are monogamous and once they fine their partner, they mate for life.”
