Sweet Treats: Sea Salt Candy Company
Monday, September 9 2013
When it comes to desserts, we can’t get enough of our favorite new sweet ending, Sea Salt Candy Company. Founded in May 2011 by two sisters, Lisa and Gretchen Bender, the San Diego-based company strives to use California-based ingredients in all of their confections--which we love and makes for a great touch when using as party favors or in a gift bag. The Sea Salt Candy launched with their now famous heirloom toffee bar, Claim to Fame, (pictured on left) a decadent creation featuring Chico almonds, dark chocolate, walnuts and the piece de resistance, a light dusting of sea salt, ($10.95 to $28.95). One bite and you’ll be hooked.
Other delectable options include their collection of five Saucy Sister Boozy Caramel sauces ($11), flavors include Frisky Whiskey, Tequila, Salted Dark Chocolate, Rum Away with Me! (how perfect for a party favor!). But I’m a huge fan of the buttery, salty delight that is the Virgin Vanilla Bean--amazing over ice cream, with apples or just go for it and put a spoon in it.
And nothing says turndown service, like their old-fashioned caramels ($19.95). I love the idea of placing these on your guests bed with a cute thank you note or piled high on a dessert table. Flavors include salted milk chocolate caramel, old-fashioned salted caramel or the latest addition, chile verde salted caramel. Order online at seasaltcandy.com
