Amber Rules: Gorgeous Gem-Toned Wedding Inspiration

Gem-toned shades make a brilliant statement.
From: Winter 2016-2017 edition

Incorporating the five senses is the key to creating beautiful designs, says Robin Ballard of Orange County’s Events by Robin. “I love incorporating details that feel effortless and pull together the entire guest experience.” Ballard recommends starting with selecting a shade of amber you like most as your base. “Visit a local paint store and pick up a plethora of paint chips to help get inspired,” she recommends. From there, it’s onto touch—so think about textures. “Amber is a warm color,” notes Ballard, “and layering with a velvet texture adds another element to the design.” Opt for simple details, such as lining the invitation’s envelope or adding accent pillows on lounge vignettes. Round out the experience with smell, taste and hearing by placing scented candles throughout the venue; serving a special, amber-hued cocktail; and creating a cool atmosphere with steel drums or an electric violinist. And don’t forget the sixth sense—technology! Ballard urges her couples to utilize social media for a plugged-in reception: Consider personalized Snapchat geofilters, charging stations at the reception and custom wedding hashtags. Says Ballard, “I love how hashtags create an electronic scrapbook of the wedding as well as the journey leading up to the big day!”
