Anne and Tyler: Sun-Drenched Wedding at Figueroa Mountain Farmhouse

From: Summer 2016 edition

Anne and Tyler met in North Carolina, where he was stationed. Anne, a figure skater, was working at an ice rink. Hockey aficionado Tyler played in a few leagues at the ring—and it wasn’t long before friends made the introduction. Tyler’s military duty led the couple to San Diego and on a sunny afternoon at Balboa Park, Tyler asked a stranger to take a photo of the couple. Instead of posing, he dropped to one knee with a ring in hand.

The rustic and sun-drenched setting of Los Olivo’s Figueroa Mountain Farmhouse set the tone for Anne and Tyler’s romantic and casually elegant wedding, which the couple envisioned as rustic with a family BBQ feel. Davia Lee Events added an elegant spin to the reception with ornate wrought iron chairs and farm tables layered with miner’s lanterns and unique glass vessels nestled among urns of textured flowers and greens. Anne yearned for the arrangements to feel like they had been freshly picked, so Lee incorporated a mix of lushly bloomed peonies, garden roses, millet wax flowers and olive branches. Delicate white china and cut class goblets upped the romance with the place settings while staying rustic. Anne wanted the florals to have loose, freshly gathered feel, so wedding planner and florist Davia Lee opted for soft, organic arrangements. She carried a delicate bouquet of dahlias, garden roses and sweet peas in shades of peach and pink cinched with a beautiful Silk and Willow ribbon. The groom’s boutonnieres were simple and rustic hellebores and pieris japonica wrapped with twine. Baskets of wheat at the end of the aisle accentuated the dramatic Santa Ynez mountains looming in the distance.

Though it was one of the hottest days of the year, everyone was filled with complete happiness. One of the last songs of the night, Bruno Mars’ “Shut Up and Dance” brought everyone, young and old—to the danced floor.
