Michael & Matt: Luscious Greens with Pops of Orange at Thunderbird Country Club
Michael and Matt let their fun loving and joyous personalities shine through at their wedding held at Thunderbird Country Club in Rancho Mirage. The couple made history by being the first gay wedding ever held at the venue. Michael, an American, and Matt, an Irishman, fell in love while working in London and chose California as the perfect destination to get married.
The unique wedding ceremony cast beneath freestanding umbrellas was functional yet stunningly sophisticated, serving as a lovely setting to recite their vows. Bright orange protea and fresh succulents made for modern and elegant décor, beautifully highlighted by the surrounding orange trees. Succulent boutonnieres tied together the one-of-a-kind look.
After tying the knot, Michael and Matt took a ride in a golf cart decorated with “The Newlyweds” written in Gaelic and trailed by Guinness beer cans, incorporating Matt’s Irish roots and the easygoing spirit of the couple.
The fresh and airy reception on the golf course lawn showcased clean white table settings with pops of orange and green, refreshingly simple yet flawlessly elegant. The couple treated guests to a decadent three-course meal beneath the stars and gleaming lights while enjoying music by The Lucky Devils Band.
Right when the party seemed to end, Michael and Matt surprised their wedding guests with a “cheesy 80’s prom” inside the ballroom of the club. Michael wanted to ensure that Matt had his tacky prom experience, so the couple changed into ruffled suits while partygoers were gifted baby blue corsages and boutonnieres. Drag queen Drew Droege crowned the newlyweds prom kings before they celebrated their first dance. In true prom style, a grand balloon drop greeted guests to the dance floor, and everyone danced late into the morning celebrating the happy couple.
