Boho Rock meets Mid-Century Glam in this Stylish Reception Setting
We’re so in love with our beautiful Spring Summer 2014 fashion editorial Bohemian Rhapsody—the stunning gowns, the beautiful accessories and oh, sigh, the setting. Styled to perfection by Kristin Banta of Kristin Banta Events, the germ of this shoot was planted innocently enough at none other than Starbucks. Meeting for a coffee, Kristin and myself, the editor of CWD, found ourselves immersed in a conversation about wedding trends. As an editor of a magazine, I look to pinpoint trends, discover and even set trends. As an event designer and all around visionary, Banta encourages her clients to ignore trends—or even supersede them. But at the end of the day, we both kept circling back to the Boho trend. It’s here and it’s here to stay…for now anyway. But how can we make it fresh?
And so it began. Banta began envisioning an intimiate wedding dinner among the sons and daughters of rock and roll royalty, the offspring of those rock gods from the late 60s and early 70s who found their homes in the hills of Los Angele’s infamous Laurel Canyon. From this came the artful, eclectic, mid-century meets Bohemian with a mix of textiles and textures. And oh so many hidden gems--giraffes with beaded necklaces, stolen street signs, weathered Belgian rugs, animal hides, semi-precious gemstones—a potpourri of collected china and treasures from world tours and drunken adventures.
Gorgeous florals and a bouquet by R. Jack Balthazar completed the decadent and slightly rebellious setting, with a carefree mix of dahlias, peonies, garden roses, fountain grass, millet, calla lilies, and amaranth with accents of branch coral, green agate and feathers.
