An ordinary wedding was out of the question for free-spirited couple Kendra and Colin. “They had a vision for the wedding they wanted, which started as something more casual with food trucks,” explains their Los Angeles–based wedding planner, Hilary Hamer of Hilary Hamer Weddings and Events. But as Kendra is an only child, her mom had always envisioned a beautiful day. At the historic Vibiana in downtown Los Angeles, Hamer’s designembraced the couple’s energetic and lively personalities and combined them with an air of elegance. Leafy green botanical arrangements with white flowers brought a contemporary edge to the gold-linen-covered tables, which featured a mix of marble and rose gold tableware from Casa de Perrin. The bride and groom made the day their own with dazzling style and whimsical touches, from the bride’s custom lace dress and cape and gold-sequined bridesmaids’ dresses to a rented DeLorean turned photo booth and even stuffed replicas of the couple’s beloved cats.

Kendra’s couture silk mermaid gown with a keyhole back was custom designed by Samantha Popa of A Bride by Samantha in Beverly Hills. The standout feature was the majestic, 20-foot-long lace cape that Kendra donned for her ceremony in lieu of a veil. Popa came up with the idea after hearing about Kendra and Colin’s fascination with HBO’s Game of Thrones. “It was like a light bulb went off in my head, and I just thought, Mother of Dragons!” says Popa. The bride loved it so much that she even set up a photo shoot a week before the wedding to capture her wedding dress in all its glorious detail.
