California Wedding Day Fall/Winter 2021

"I was inspired to create a modern celestial design. I wanted to combine soft and whimsical details with crisp, minimalist lines so it didn’t become too much of a theme. Sometimes ‘celestial’ is deeply rooted in moons, stars and horoscopes. I wanted a nod to it without overpowering our overall aesthetic. This walks the line of romance and present day while keeping it relatable."

– Kate Wright, Xo Kate Events

TABLETOP

Monochromatic place settings are paired with rose gold flatware and accented with abundant florals, flickering candles and a mix of crystals, including rose quartz and morganite towers. The crystals add dimension to the tablescape and play to the modern celestial vibe. Raw crystals hold the calligraphed place cards.

CENTERPIECES

Drawing from Japanese ikebana, Creative Light used both dried and fresh florals to create a heavenly free-form centerpiece that includes a touch of modern romance. The cappuccino-colored dried flowers add texture to the ivory and blush tones of the fresh flora as they cascade down the tabletop.

FLORALS

Kate Wright of Xo Kate Events and Creative Light makes a floral statement with a garden rising from the floor. The staggeringly ethereal effusion of ivory and tawny blooms brings nature indoors.

BOUQUET

The bride’s bouquet similarly looks as though it has just been picked from the field, presenting a softly bohemian feel with an undeniably modern accent.

"Reverie: a state of being pleasantly lost in one’s thoughts; a daydream. This feeling is what we aimed to capture...paying a tribute to both the tangible and ethereal qualities of its surroundings, we were inspired to create a dreamlike setting with a nod of spring."

– Michelle Tu, Somni Events

CEREMONY

Set among the Santa Monica Mountains, Mulberry & Moss’ asymmetrical altar is straight out of a daydream, with its vibrant pinks and oranges speckling the greenery. A subtle ombre effect draws the eyes upward as the flora becomes wispy and cloudlike near the top of the installation.

TABLETOP

Yellow, pink and orange blooms create a stunning contrast to the backdrop of gray-blue mountains. A cheerful yet elegant centerpiece runs the length of the table, lending height and dimension.

BOUQUET

Bloom-focused bouquets are having a moment, Michelle Tu says. The summery roses and peonies were inspired by the bride’s gown.

"The aesthetic for this design is sleek and timeless, with a loose, relaxed vibe. Midcentury modern and bohemian have a lot to offer when combined. Modern is very functional and adds a classy feel to an event, while boho styling adds character."

– Jillian Bobinski, Jillian Nicole Events

COLOR PALETTE

Jillian Bobinski of Jillian Nicole Events and Emma Seitz of Leta Verbena chose a color palette of desert browns and nude hues juxtaposed with sky blue. “It felt different and so applicable to Southern California,” says Jillian. “The desert browns and blues of the open sky and desert.”

CEREMONY

Rich brown shades with pops of blue create never-ending texture and depth in Leta Verbena’s floral wall, which serves as the backdrop for the ceremony. Gold palms, grasses, dyed orchids and baby’s breath come together in the organic showstopper.

TABLETOP

Atop the tables, petite arrangements of white and dusty orange roses anchor the romantic vignette. Anemones and purple orchids splash dashes of contrast.

BOUQUET

The bride’s bouquet culls the most delicate hues from the overall design palette. Soft lavender coupled with refreshing whites are accented with deep brown leaves.
