California Love: Sunset-Inspired Wedding Decor

Spring Summer 2015

Sara Holland and Jenny Goodman of At Your Door Events in Los Angeles created this gorgeous tabletop by melding gold-hued glassware and place settings with contemporary accents, such as square-sequined white linen. “The tablecloth reminded me of how the sun sparkles off the ocean,” says Holland. Glass museum boxes filled with beach sand and moss showcase Valencia oranges, while wooden bears serve as name cards, inspired by the state flag. A burst of sunlight is created by vibrantly colored peonies, ranunculus, roses, tulips and orchids tucked into brushed gold vases and wooden boxes.

A refreshing, fizzy cocktail concocted from lemon sorbet and Champagne, garnished with a slice of fresh orange is like California in a glass.

Make a statement with an invitation in the shape of California. Handcrafted from wood-patterned paper with a modern deconstructed layout, it is nestled in a bed of moss and enclosed in a glossy wood box. A vintage California postcard serves as the RSVP enclosure. Invitation suite: Paper Crew

A California state-shaped poplar table sets the scene for a brightly colored dessert spread and wedding cake. Supefine Bakery’s modern three-tiered, smooth-finish cake features a cascade of sugared orange California poppies—the state flower—atop a glossy white and rustic wood cake stand. Keeping to the California theme, the sweet spread by Two’s A Party boasts bites with bold citrus colors and flavors, including strawberry shortcake parfaits, lemon and red velvet macarons, honey bear jars filled with chocolate-covered California raisins, and a mix of cherry, orange and lemon-flavored candies, including gummi bears, fruit slices, fruit sours, jelly beans and rock candy.
