Filipino Customs and Opulent Décor Shine at Hartley Botanica Springtime Wedding

In the lush embrace of Hartley Botanica and under the Southern California sun, Alexis and Ben Laroza’s love story blossomed into a vibrant spring celebration. Inspired by the tropical allure of Kauai—where they became engaged—they transformed the botanical venue into their own paradise. The venue came alive with edible fruit décor and a kaleidoscope of exhilarating colors, including a stunning installation of blush-colored jasmine blooms suspended above the aisle. Embracing their Filipino heritage, the couple donned traditional attire and incorporated Filipino customs, including the cord, veil and unity candle tradition, into their nuptials. Bringing some puppy charm to the ceremony, their shiba inu, Flower, shared the role of flower girl with their niece, Emma. To ensure their presence was not missed at cocktail hour, the couple included “fathead” likenesses of themselves with which guests could take silly photos. Fresh coconuts served as escort cards, and Ferrero Rocher “pineapples” added a sweet touch. The bride and groom’s Filipino-American heritage also infused the menu. “Our desserts were leche flan, coconut bibingka and taho (sweet silky tofu). We made a special request that instead of a cake cutting, we had a lechon (roasted pig) cutting,” Alexis explains. Unique details abounded, from signature drinks inspired by their favorite hockey teams to personalized gifts for the bridal party. The day was a testament to the beauty of shared moments. “One of my favorite memories is finding out that our friends or family knew someone else at the wedding from work or hobbies, and seeing the new connections made from the good times,” says Alexis. “And seeing all the people I care about on the dance floor!” Alexis says.
