In the past, eloping was typically a clandestine mission. Today, the concept embodies an air of romance, whether the reason for eloping is because of budget concerns or a desire for an intimate setting. In Amahlia McManus and Michael Midling’s case, the idea of an elopement began with the longing for a romantic photo shoot. Since they were planning a grand wedding overseas, they wanted this quiet moment to create intimate memories as well as tangible keepsakes. Thus, they envisioned an elopement-inspired photo shoot that would provide both. After enlisting their friend and wedding planner Candice Yen of Milk Events, the photo shoot evolved into a beautifully designed and intimate celebration at the villa at Sunstone Winery, which lies nestled in the picturesque Santa Ynez Valley. The location was ideal because Amahlia and Michael had frequented the winery many times while dating, and Michael hails from nearby Santa Barbara.
A whimsical palette of pink, pale yellows, lavender and baby blues was reflected in lovely florals tucked in baskets, creating a picnic-style, alfresco atmosphere. The ceremony, shared only with Amahlia and Michael’s closest loved ones, was brimming with emotion. To showcase both the breathtaking backdrop and the couple, the ceremony featured a low garden-style floral arrangement. Texture was front and center in every detail, from the three-dimensional petals adorning Amahlia’s gown to the petite ruffled cake. At dinner, guests dined beneath arches of greenery, a design inspired by the ivy growing on the villa’s walls.
