Emily & Matthew: Rustic Romance at Greengate Ranch and Vineyard
Matt and Emily wanted their venue to be a continuation of their proposal, which was in a beautiful, candlelit barn. As soon as they found Greengate Ranch and Vineyard in San Luis Obispo, they knew it was the perfect mix of the rustic, elegant style they both wanted. The decorations consisted of dainty, vintage pieces, with hints of pastel pink. The tables and chairs resembled barnyard doors to complement the vintage decor.
Emily wore minimal accessories with her wedding dress, making the simplicity of the dress the focal point. The sweetheart neckline was flattering on Emily, and matched the elegance of her venue. Her bridesmaids also wore cream dresses to complement her dress. Matt and Emily also wanted their family and tradition to be paramount. They wanted to reflect Matt’s New Orleans heritage with a Second Line and Emily’s family traditions at their wedding, hence the pie bar had plates handmade by Emily’s grandmother.
From the bride: "Goose & Maverick" is what our co-workers playfully called us when we first met because we reminded them of the perfectly matched and constantly joking team from the movie "Top Gun". At the time we were just developing our friendship while both working on a film shooting in Pittsburgh. We each had "secret crushes" on one another but were both too shy to make the first move. It wasn't until the final day of shooting that we went on our first date (scuba diving off the coast of the Florida Keys) and realized that we were crazy to not take this amazing friendship to the next level.
We have so much in common and fit perfectly together. We came back to LA, started dating, soon fell in love and exactly 4 years from our first date will be married. For Matt and I, family and tradition are paramount. We really wanted our wedding to reflect that so we carried through Matt's New Orleans heritage and family traditions from my side. Having a New Orleans Brass Band lead our guests in a Second Line was one of our highest priorities.
When Matt and I were first dating and he took me to New Orleans to meet his family, I saw a Second Line down Bourbon Street for the first time. I already knew I wanted to marry him by then, so immediately I was convinced that we had to have one at our wedding. The Second Line is such a fun celebration of life, love and tradition. Matt and I both prefer pie to cake so we wanted to have a pie bar, and my grandmother hand-made all of our pie plates and helped us make our homemade jam favors.
Matt and I had so much fun over the past year completing all of our DIY projects together. Matt is the kind of guy who can build anything and I was able to put my craft skills to work, but the best part was spending weekends together creating everything. Our venue also influenced our style a lot. We both knew we wanted to get married on a ranch, and as soon as we found Greengate, we knew it was the perfect mix of the rustic, elegant style we were going for. Matt proposed to me in a beautiful, candlelit barn, so we wanted the same, romantic feel for our reception." - Emily
