A Rustic Wedding With The Sweetest Disney Details At Hamilton Oaks Winery In San Juan Capistrano
Hilary and Nicolaas tied the knot during a gorgeous wedding day at Hamilton Oaks Winery in San Juan Capistrano. Hilary looked stunning in a Made With Love Bridal lace gown from Love and Lace Bridal Salon. The bride is a Disney lover, and her event planner surprised her with a live performance by Anna from "Frozen Live" as she walked down the aisle to meet her groom. Beautiful pink blooms from Tustin Florist made for a stunning bouquet and ceremony arch, while rustic rentals from Rickety Swank Vintage Rentals and sweet Disney design elements tied everything together. Keep reading to hear from the bride herself!
About Us: "We met through mutual friends several years before we actually got together. We bonded over music and shared our experiences of traveling. After not seeing each other for a few years, our eventual reunion happened at our friends’ wedding in Las Vegas. We were together for three years when Nicolaas proposed during a trip to Maui. It took place on the beach where he presented the ring and a certificate that stated that I passed the “Nicolaas Boersma Vetting Process”. This was something we had joked about prior to this."
The Wedding Experience: "We knew that we wanted our wedding to be fun, unique to our personalities, and have a relaxed vibe. We really thought about the guests and how we could make it a big party rather than forcing us to be the center of attention the entire time (which we both hate). To do this, we created several areas at the venue so guests could wander and enjoy themselves. We had the dance floor in one area, a photo booth, a candy bar where guests could scoop their own candy into bags with our name and wedding date printed on them, and a lounge area with rented furniture in a more quiet area of the venue. We also had guests write a song request on their RSVPs so we could be sure that some dancing would happen. An added surprise for us came when our planner arranged for a performer to sing our entrance and exit song during the ceremony. That was a really special part of the day."
Venue: "We both knew that we wanted a venue that was outdoors but not too much in nature, and through a Google search we came upon our venue. It is a historic house and was actually the site of the first orange grove in Orange County. It is surrounded by an open area, so we were able to get some photos in nature as well."
Design/Style/Inspiration: "When asked about our design, I would tell people that it was “blush pink with a hint of sparkle.” I wanted something that wasn’t super trendy and would look timeless in pictures. I found rose gold sequin table runners online, which my amazing planner was able to get for us, and the overall wedding design came together from there. Much of the decor was DIY, including the signs, table numbers, and card box on the welcome table. Another design that I really wanted was to have an arch with hanging flowers similar to a beaded curtain. Nicolaas’ father custom built the arch for us, and we were able to use it first for the ceremony and then to house the cake during the reception. I am also a Disney fan and wanted to incorporate some of that into the wedding without it being overwhelming. To do this, we used several Disney songs for key moments of the wedding, had Disney couple table numbers, and we even had hidden Mickeys on our invitations and signs."
