Venue Report: The Garland

Published:

Spring Summer 2015

After a $20 million renovation, North Hollywood finally has a hotel and event venue in The Garland to rival the retro chic of those offered over the hill in Tinseltown proper. Actress Beverly Garland (My Three Sons) and her husband opened the Spanish mission-style resort as a Universal Studios-adjacent urban hideaway in 1972. Now operated by their son, the redo erased the property’s economical tourist vibe and rebranded it as a hip boutique.

The 243 Mad Men-styled rooms and 14 suites feature mismatched patterns, art inspired by local architectural icons and Eames-ish furniture. But brides come for the stellar Beverly Park space, a secluded 4,000 square-foot secret garden surrounded by tall trees that welcomes up to 500 people with a vibrant landscape, carved benches and stone fountain. Choose to dine al fresco with catering by The Front Yard restaurant or continue the party in the elegant-but-not-overly-frilly ballrooms. Either way, your menu will have been planned in conjunction with their new restaurant.
