Well Suited

Step Aside, billowing white dress, and make way for the well-suited
groom. “Why rent something on the most important day of your life?” asks
Janice Bussing, co-owner and stylist at The Groom's Valet ( suits begin at $200) a custom men’s clothier that provides in-home
consultations from San Diego to Santa Barbara. Bussing likes to focus on
connecting bridegrooms to their big day, all while getting them
perfectly styled in everything from classic to contemporary suits and
tuxes. But there are plenty of other reasons—and custom men’s
clothiers—to consider when going the bespoke route, from body type to
style.

Founded in Los Angeles, the online design firm Thick as Thieves (prices
begin at $480) caters to hipster grooms looking for a specific vintage
(verging on mod) aesthetic, especially those with a smaller build. “It
is very hard to find an affordable suit that fits them correctly and not
look like he is wearing big brother’s old suit,” says owner and tailor
Jason Hue. While Los Angeles–based grooms can make an appointment to
have measurements taken and see styles and fabrics, those outside the
area can simply do it all online: Just choose a style from the website’s
look book and send in the measurements.

When hands-on attention and the
richest of fabrics are a must, custom clothier Jonathan Behr Bespoke (suits
beginning at $1,900) offers fine fabrics and Savile Row sophistication
that off-the-rack choices just can’t rival. Behr’s tailor shop is
located in the Wilshire District and is by appointment only. Need more
incentive? The man of the hour is the only one in the wedding party
who’ll be able to wear his clothes again. Sorry, bridesmaids!
