Brett and Patrick Duncan are the epitome of a creative, 21st century couple. After being electronically introduced by a mutual friend and getting to know one-another via email, the two finally met for a wine-tasting weekend in Santa Barbara and immediately fell in love. About a year and a half later, the couple vacationed to Italy and Patrick proposed while on a hike in the Tuscany Countryside.
For Brett, wedding planning turned into a creative outlet and an escape from her black-and-white job in the medical field. She opted to forgo a professional event planner and took every aspect of the big day into her hands. Her goal for the wedding was to create a day that would be enjoyable for young and old and that truly represented her and Patrick's laid-back style. Rather than renting furniture and decorations, she scoured thrift stores and consignment shops for months in advance and stock-piled everything in their San Diego home. Her family and friends helped cut fabric, sew napkins, and find affordable vintage plates to use at the reception. With the help of a rented U-Haul, the couple transported everything from San Diego to San Luis Obispo and transformed the historic Santa Margarita Ranch into a chic, country wedding that showcased their adorable style.
Brett's lace wedding gown was bursting with light blue accents and her bridesmaids wore mismatched dresses and their favorite boots. The reception was held in a refurbished barn and was dripping with flowers, warm lights, and pastels of every kind. They offered two homestyle options for dinner-- Moe's BBQ and food from the Haute Skillet food truck. Every ounce of hard work paid of and the couple was able to relish in a beautiful night surrounded by friends and family and filled with love.
