October is a special time of the year for Karrie and Jay, he asked her out on their first date at a Halloween party. And despite being in different cities—Karrie in San Francisco and Jay in Monterey—the couple instantly became inseparable. After a few years, Karrie made the move to Monterey, they moved in to a new house and got engaged, all in the month of October. So when it came to pick a wedding date, October was the meaningful choice.
The muse for Karrie and Jay’s wedding was her 1940s engagement ring. But the real design catalyst was when the couple fell head over heels for the vintage white barn at Hammersky Vineyards, set amid rolling vineyards and dappled with Oak trees. Inspired, Karrie settled on a vintage-shabby chic look with a soft palette of cornflower blue, gray and navy with a nuance of pale sage green.
The bride, her mom and sister put in some serious elbow grease creating the sweetest of details. The projects began with a vintage dresser that Karrie sanded and painted a pale gray. It served as the beautiful dessert station hosting an array of donuts, cupcakes, brownies and skewered donut holes—complete with tinsel wrapped on the ends. The open drawers were filled with kettle corn and paper bags (sporting Karrie and Jay’s initials) for guests to fill with goodies. Karrie’s mom added her stamp by sewing elegant cheese cloth runners for the reception’s farm tables.
Since Hammersky boasts a backdrop of verdant greenery with oak trees, vineyards and Paso Roble’s hills, Karrie opted for simple, light and clean flowers. The family-style sit down dinner tables featured a variety of different-sized vases clustered in three along the 18-foot tables filled with white and blush garden roses, white hydrangea, dusty miller and eucalyptus leaves.
