Lovebirds Niki and Eric officially met on their last day of a law school program. “I’m the luckiest guy!” Eric said, thankful that he was partnered with Niki on a class quiz game. During the game, Eric shared that they bonded over their competitiveness. And after, Niki offered Eric a nice ride home. He said the conversation never ceased or slowed down, and he was (and still is) head-over-heels for Niki and her infectious laugh. He wanted to hear that laugh every day from then on. Two months after, their relationship became exclusive.
Eric had a grand design for his proposal—to take Niki to her favorite Thai restaurant and after, propose to her on Stoat Lake by the boathouse. He even contacted string quartets to play their special song, but his design didn’t go as planned. Instead of going to dinner, they had a late lunch. The lake was also a 45-minute walk from the restaurant, so they walked tirelessly through mosquitos and homeless encampments.
So how exactly did Eric get the girl of his dreams? Well, when they finally arrived where he hoped to propose, Niki jumped onto a rock to get a better view of the boathouse across the lake. It was quiet, and they were finally alone from onlookers. That’s when he went down on one knee.
For their wedding, Niki wanted a color palette of coral and gray. After they spoke with , they came to a design. Nisie at Enchanted Florist and Platinum Weddings by Kerrie also helped to achieve Niki’s girly and soft taste.
There were two ceremonies on their special day, an Indian one in the morning and a Jewish one in the evening. All of their family and friends purchased Indian attire and dressed in khurtas and saris. “It was amazing!” said Eric. It was a twist on modern and traditional, and they both loved every minute. As for the Jewish ceremony, it lasted for about 15 minutes. Eric and his parents, plus the bridesmaids and the small children, walked down the aisle to Bob Dylan’s “Tonight I’ll Be Staying Here with You.” Their simple and modern theme with coral and gray elements looked lovely, especially with the Catalina Island as the backdrop. While the sun slowly set, the rabbi gave a beautiful sermon and Niki kissed Eric before he finished. He broke the glass, and the couple walked out to “Forever Young.”
Niki and Eric were both worried that the guests of the two weddings wouldn’t get along, but they all mingled and enjoyed themselves. After the weddings, the happy couple spent their honeymoon in Tokyo, but left us with an advice to offer future couples. "Get a wedding planner, and don’t worry too much because everything will fall into place!"
