For Meghan and Nate, celebrating their new life together meant remembering the past. They wanted to honor all of the marriages that led up to their own wedding day and create a celebration that all of their guests would enjoy. They used old family photos and put them on programs and garlands to set a theme of vintage romance. The photos included wedding pictures of their parents, grandparents, and even great grandparents. “It was fun because the programs almost ended up like ‘trading cards’,” says Meghan. “And it was fun for our friends to make bets on who was from the bride’s side and the groom’s.”
Family history became an important aspect of the wedding. For her “something old” Meghan used some lace from her mother’s veil as a wrap on her bouquet. Nate also used his father in-law’s wedding band, which was redesigned but left the original wedding date inscribed on the inside. During the ceremony, both Meghan and Nate’s grandmothers did a reading and a wine ceremony performed by their mothers. Their fathers did a tree planting ceremony, which combined soil from both of their family homes.
Everything from the ceremony to the décor was a beautiful tribute to the examples of strong commitment in Meghan and Nate’s lives.
