Nancy and Charles: An Awesome Music-Inspired Wedding

This wedding is near to my heart as it celebrates the union of my dear friends and former neighbors, Nancy Nguyen and Charles Pham. As a passionate and lifelong music lover, Charles’ magical proposal set the stage for a musical-themed event. He spent months tracking down one his favorite bands, the Trashcan Sinatras and after much work, convinced the band to play a special engagement at their home during which he proposed.

Ever
a perfectionist, the couple (especially the detail-orientated Charles)
 spent months agonizing over the music details—from the movie
poster-designed save-the-dates and CD-style invitations (complete with a
CD filled with their favorite love songs) to the last dance (“True” by
Spandau Ballet).  They incorporated their favorite bands, The Cure and
Coldplay, in modern and fun manners, including the groom and groomsmens’
high-energy entrance to The Cure’s “In Between Days” (extended version,
of course) while the bride walked down the aisle escorted by her
parents to Coldplay’s “Reign of Love.”

After an emotional and intimate ceremony in the Rose Garden performed by Nancy’s close friend, Christopher
Chau, the two took the reception by storm and made their entrance to
Coldplay's “Viva la Vida." The highlight of the evening was the surprise
DJ Richard Blade, an iconic Los Angeles 80’s deejay, who brought the
house down with an awesome mix of modern tunes and 80’s hits. And last
but certainly not least, was Charles’ father’s all-star band performance
that included the family’s favorite Vietnamese songs and his cousin’s
performance of The Platter’s “Only You.” Other special touches included a
delicious ten-course Chinese dinner featuring tea smoked chicken, Bei
Fung Tang Lobster, steamed whole fish and more.
