TABLE THE CONVERSATION
“Imagine a fashionable, well-traveled couple who thinks out of the box and wants to show their own sense of style,” says Eddie Zaratsian about his inspiration for this lush and contemporary setting, which features a melody of blues with pops of violet and fuchsia. “I always take my cues from fashion,” he notes. “And likewise, fashion is inspired by flowers—think Carolina Herrera, Oscar de la Renta and even H&M. Florals never go out style; they are always a moment of luxury.”
Blue floral china and gold flatware adds an unexpected and richly baroque touch, while a custom navy sequined runner accentuates the table’s rose gold geometric pattern; vibrant peonies, garden roses and blue thistle nestle among votive candles; Zaratsian adds depth and dimension to the flower wall backdrop by layering statice flowers in purple, blue and periwinkle punctuated by Art Deco–style geometrical accents.

THE LOUNGE
Conversation nooks are a key design detail in today’s weddings, says Zaratsian. “Once the dinner is over and dancing begins, people can head to the lounge area to enjoy a cocktail and connect with each other.” This deep, plush lounge brings a residential element with a cozy seating arrangement that invites guests to mingle. A geometrically shaped coffee table can be adorned with books from a couple’s collection, and vases filled with blue thistle and peonies.
“It’s a little jazz and flavor,” notes Zaratsian. “Fill a shelf with pieces that mean something to the couple to add to the guests’ experience, and bring in shape and movement.” The striking bookshelf brings drama with its collection of etched vases, candles, florals and shimmering spiked orbs in a mix of shapes and metals, including rose gold, aged copper and bronze; blue thistle is nestled in a clear vase filled with blue-hued water.

THE DESSERT TABLE
To complement Zaratsian’s contemporary architectural design, Leslie Maynor of South Pasadena’s Fantasy Frostings created a modern four-tiered, square wedding cake. The luscious crème brûlée flavored cake is covered in a rich navy blue fondant and accented with a cascade of sugar paste rose gold jewels for a sophisticated feel; lemon lavender cupcakes decorated with sugar paste rose gold jewels and deep blue frosting, together with blueberry panna cotta shots, pair beautifully with the statement cake.

INVITATIONS
Set the tone from the beginning with a rose gold and navy invitation suite. The main panel features rose gold foil on indigo card stock paired with a cream Crane’s letter response set with bronze envelopes. The modern rose gold calligraphic font gracing all the materials adds elegance, while the geometric pattern on the envelope liner sets the stage for the Art Deco-meets-contemporary design of the wedding; escort cards feature indigo card stock with a white calligraphic font and a bold swath of rose gold foil.
