“Brides are definitely using more accessories for their hair, whether it’s a crown, clip, brooch or headband,” says Amy Castaniero of Central Coast’s The Blushed Company. From sleek and loose curls to tousled updos and chic braids, bridal hair pros share real wedding inspiration for incorporating pretty accessories with picture-perfect hair styles.

“Understated” and “romantic” were bride Jennie Anderson’s buzzwords when it came time to talk hair. Jennie asked for a floral crown that was delicate, with a natural texture and an air of elegance. Kellye Clifford of San Luis Obispo’s Precious and Blooming designed a halo with Israeli ruscus, blushing bride, hypericum, wax flower and brunia. To complement the Grecian feel of the leaves wrapping around the crown, hairstylist Page Berse of Absolutely Fabulous Glamour Studio in Santa Barbara created a simple but ethereal knot at the nape of the neck. “The flower crown added a whimsical touch of nature and romance,” notes Berse. Loose & Tousled

Rustic with a touch of whimsy and a hint of glam was the goal of this look, says Santa Barbara-based wedding planner Davia Lee. “I wanted the updo to be simple with an effortless air,” explains Amy Castaniero of Central Coasts’s The Blushed Company. “Romantic and natural—nothing stiff or too perfect to play off the environment of Santa Barbara’s Natural History Museum.” Hair extensions were added to create fullness, while texture was built by adding twists and knots while loosely pinning the hair. Long on Glamour

Bride Lauren Gilmore opted for a sexy and romantic look to fit her form-fitting gown and dramatic makeup. “We decided on a deep side part with a classic and uniform wave,” explains Trace Henningsen, who handmade the one-of-a-kind crystal barrette. “The piece accentuated her profile and created balance in the overall look.” Not to mention adding the perfect touch of sparkle. Effortlessly Chic

Los Angeles hair stylist Trace Henningsen combined the best of both worlds—sparkles and flowers—in bride Abby Walker’s timeless look. “Her dress was classic and simple, so we added a bit of sparkle to give balance to the tousled bun,” notes Henningsen, who custom-designed the crystal hair vine with tiny keshi pearls and Swarovski crystals. “Abby loved the idea of a flower crown, but wanted it to be more subtle. I created the illusion by having the crystal vines intertwine with the flowers in the back.” Hair and accessory by Trace Henningsen Bridal; Photo by Valorie Darling

Natural Beauty

Soft, loose locks were the perfect accompaniment for bride Katie Ingham’s wildflower-inspired wreath, which featured magenta and fuchsia wax flowers, seeded eucalyptus, pittosporum leaves and pops of white lisianthus. “Remember, a head wreath should accentuate you,” notes florist Erin McClellan of Sprigs Floral Designs in San Luis Obispo. “Your designer should focus on the color of your hair, the flowers that match your overall color scheme and the feeling you are trying to express.” Florals by Sprigs Floral Designs; Photo by Kelsey Stewart of Ken Kienow Photography

The Beach Bride

Bride Eileen Thompson wanted a romantic updo with a braid for her beachside wedding. Her team—hairstylist Katie Vollmer of Orange County’s Beauty and the Beach, and florist Jenni Hill of Little Hill Floral Designs in Huntington Beach—created a fresh look by intertwining the floral halo (a blend of succulents, lavender, tiny pink and coral roses, and orange ranunculus) with a thick, textured braid atop loosely pinned curls.
