Blushington
is not your typical beauty salon. The West Hollywood beauty lounge's interior
is that of a luxe LA boutique interior - think pretty pinks, clean lines and
blingy chandeliers - while the prices are (amazingly) affordable, especially
considering it boasts an expert staff of beauty pros. We touched based with
Blushington pro Jessica Scantlin to get the latest scoop on wedding party
beauty, her favorite bridal look, and tips and tricks that will make you look
fabulous for your big day – and every day leading up to it.
Blushing Bride
“My favorite
look on a bride is honestly a glam version of herself,” says Scantlin. “I think
it gives the most beautiful realistic effect of the bride's natural beauty.” So
how does she suggest amping up your look? Wear a heavier foundation, add
shimmer to the inner corners of your eyes (she’s partial to Becca Jewel Dust)
and do a pink/peach cheek for a pop of color. Oh, and don’t forget to add
lashes. “This will insure a more glam look on your day while still looking like
yourself and feeling comfortable and beautiful!”
Bright On
Tired,
exhausted skin and undereye bags are certainly a big concern for a bride-to-be
planning a wedding. Scantlin recommends using a thick concealer, such as Becca
Compact Concealers or the Kevin Aucoin Skin Enhancers, to cover up dark
circles. “Also put your eye cream in the fridge, it will help take away
puffiness,” advises Scantlin. As for dull skin, she recommends going to get an
oxygen facial to hydrate your skin and give it a healthy glow. Can’t make it to
the spa? Give yourself a facial at home with Scantlin’s favorite - the Amore
Pacific Brightening Mask -which she tells us “will honestly brighten your skin
more than you can imagine.”
Faux or No?
Scantlin
weighs in on the important debate: strip lashes or lash extension for your big
day? “I would personally do individual faux lashes. They look more realistic
and you can take them off at night,” advises Scantlin. Steer clear of trying
out lash extensions for the first time right before your nuptials – “that is
not the time to try anything semi permament.” If you are dying to have them,
she suggests trying them out for your bachelorette party first.
On Trend
“I see a lot
of brighter lips as a bridal trend right now,” says Scantlin. “The more pink
shades are really in but more electric and fun. Brides are more adventurous now
than they ever have been while still keeping a classic look.”
Go All Out
Wedding day
beauty is important, but what about all the other events leading up to the
wedding? “For your rehearsal dinner, here is where I personally like to play up
the lips and go for a simple liner and lashes on top,” says Scantlin. “As for
your bachelorette party go all out!! This is your time to have fun so opt for a
sultry smokey eye, strip lashes and I would do more of a nude/light pink lip.”
Bridal Party
Scantlin has
simple advice for other attendees at the wedding: stay clean. For bridesmaids,
keep it beautiful and simple with a neutral smokey eye and lashes for something
glamorous that won’t overshadow the bride. For the mother of the bride, she
suggests nothing too dark on the eyes and a fun lip in a plum or mauve.
Tricks of the Trade
“For a bride
I cannot live without the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector and the Kevin Aucoin
Skin Enhancers,” says Scantlin. Mix the perfector with your makeup for a
gorgeous glow, and the skin enhancer works as a cover up and contouring base.
Another high-impact trick that’s simple and easy: “My personal favorite tip is
to highlight the tip of your nose ever so lightly. I know it sounds crazy but
just take your fingertip and add a bit of highlighter like the Jouer highlight
add just put on the end of your nose. It gives it more structure and looks
fantastic in pictures!”
Lastly, the
best tip she says she can give to a bride is to relax. “It's your special day
and if you get stressed about everything you won't remember it!”
