Mali and Chris’ wedding weekend was guided by both classic and contemporary themes and united Irish Catholic, Punjabi and Indian traditions. Sharing a deep love for family, the couple dreamed of a personal celebration rooted in the values of culture and faith that brought them together. After their paths first crossed at a Halloween party prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, Mali and Chris stayed connected and made their relationship official at the end of 2020. Four years later, Chris planned an intimate weekend getaway to his family home in Monterey, surprising Mali with the proposal during a long walk on the beach.
Rain thwarted their planned beachfront ceremony, but the relocation indoors became a serendipitous opportunity for Mali and Chris’ families to bond more intimately. Over 48 hours, the couple celebrated with a timeless Catholic ceremony at Saint Killian Catholic Church and a Sikh Anand Karaj. Cohesive wedding attire honored Mali’s heritage, creating a personal and meaningful color palette. The bridesmaids’ blush shararas, the groomsmen’s muted beige kurtas and even pastel accents on the best men’s vests complemented the bride’s vibrant fuchsia lehenga, worn for the Anand Karaj.
An intimate Mehendi ceremony followed, during which Mali invited the bridal party to enjoy minimalist, modern henna designs in her suite at The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel. The festivities flowed into an elegant and opulent reception at The Ritz- Carlton, where guests were wowed by exquisite mirrors, white florals and metallic accents inspired by Mali’s silver mirrored corset. Quite literally dancing in the rain, the couple cherished the union of their two families and cultures.
