Lizzie & Buck: Whiskey and Lace Inspired Wedding on a Private Sonoma Ranch

Real Wedding

Published:

Spring Summer 2015

Lizzy Nuss and Buck Serres dreamed of a wedding day that represented who they were as a couple while also feeling homegrown, handmade and humble. Buck often refers to their relationship as “whiskey and lace” which became the inspiration and theme of their perfectly juxtaposed rustic-chic wedding. Guests were carted on old-fashioned yellow school buses to the outdoor ceremony on the Serres family’s private ranch. They took seats on repurposed hay bales and rocking chairs and flipped through creative newspaper-style programs. Long, wooden tables were lined with white linens that had been hand-cut by Lizzy’s mother. Blueberry jam was made from Serres Ranch blueberries and labeled for each guest with custom nametags and gold-painted horseshoes.

Since Lizzy’s father couldn’t physically attend the wedding, she knew he would be watching from above and made sure to include him in spirit. A small photo of him was attached to her bouquet, a seat was left open for him at the ceremony and a framed picture of him and Lizzy with the E.E. Cummings quote “I carry your heart with me…I carry it in my heart” was displayed at the reception.

Bride Idea: To incorporate Buck’s love of hunting guests were given loaded cap guns with instructions to “Fire Away When He Kisses The Bride!”
